Dalvin Cook was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2017 draft.
Since he was drafted, Cook has been the team’s primary running back and has made the Pro Bowl in four consecutive seasons.
Despite his impact on the field, Cook’s future with the Vikings is uncertain given his age and the organization’s willingness to extend him.
Recently, the Vikings’ general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah provided an update on this situation.
When asked about Cook’s presence on the roster in 2023, he said “We’re trying to be solutions-oriented and always try to put the roster together within our constraints.”
Asked if Dalvin Cook will be on the roster this season, Adofo-Mensah didn’t say yes. “Conversations are always ongoing with him. We’re trying to be solutions-oriented and always try to put the roster together within our constraints.” Cook’s 2023 cap number is $14.1m.

While news about Cook has been largely speculative up to this point, this update was surprising to many fans around the league.
Despite the initial shock, many Vikings fans believe this is the beginning to the end of Cook’s time in Minnesota.

Another Vikings fan echoed a similar sentiment.
In recent history, running backs have gotten smaller contract extensions, which is largely due to the way that the NFL has shifted.
Running backs have become less of a hot commodity, especially with the pass-friendly nature of the league.
One fan has suggested that Cook could be moved during the NFL Draft, should the Vikings choose to go that route.

While draft-day trades are commonplace, the Vikings do not typically make massive moves during the draft.
Could this year change their history if the team does want to move on from Cook?
