The Boston Celtics came into this 2022-23 NBA season with a heavy heart as legendary center and Hall of Famer Bill Russell passed away at 88.

Russell was an NBA icon and one of the greatest players of all time as a lifelong Celtic who was respected by everyone in the league, past and present.

Although the 11-time NBA champion no longer supports his team in the stands, he’ll never be forgotten and remains a source of inspiration for two-time All-Star Jaylen Brown.

Ahead of Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks, Brown put his unique shoes on display, with him and Russell on the side via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston.

Along with his cool kicks, Brown and every player in the league has No. 6 on their jerseys this season, paying tribute to Russell and all he did for the NBA.

No. 6 is also showcased on the floor at TD Garden, which is likely a constant source of inspiration for Brown, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford as they hope to truly honor the late legend with another championship banner hanging in the rafters in Boston.

The Celtics hope to take a commanding two-game lead in their first-round playoff series with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday to take one step closer to advancing to the second round to face either the Philadelphia 76ers or the Brooklyn Nets.

If Tatum and Brown can continue to play at a high level like they have all season long, the Celtics have a legitimate shot at winning it all this year.
