A terrific season for the Sacramento Kings came to an end with a thud on Sunday when they fell at home to the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series, 120-100.

All season long, the Kings’ rallying theme has been “light the beam,” as the team would light up a purple beam into the sky from Golden 1 Center after each win.

But Stephen Curry prevented that from happening by scoring 50 efficient points, and he seemed to mock Kings fans late in Game 7.

The Kings came into this series as the favorites in the minds of many, as they had claimed the third-best record in the Western Conference during the regular season.

Meanwhile, Golden State, the defending NBA champs, had a frustrating and enigmatic year, as they had lots of trouble winning on the road and had to deal with some of its best players, including Curry, missing long stretches of action.

But perhaps they have gotten their act together lately.

The Warriors zoomed to the sixth seed in the final days of the regular season by winning eight of their last 10 games, three of them coming on the road, and in this series, they not only took Game 7 in Sacramento but also the pivotal fifth game.

Their defense shined brightly on Sunday, as they held the Kings, a team that scored a league-high 120.7 points per game in the regular season, to just 37.5 percent from the field and 25.5 percent from 3-point range.

Still, Sacramento has plenty to be optimistic about moving forward thanks to a young and ascending squad.
