The Seattle Seahawks surprised many across the league in 2022, making the playoffs in Geno Smith’s first year as their starting quarterback.

As the Seahawks look forward to the 2023 season, they have recently declined the fifth-year option for linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

When asked about the situation, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll doubled down on Brooks by saying, “We expect Jordyn to be with us for a long time.”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says on @ChuckAndBuckKJR show that Jordyn Brooks “has gone a long, long future” with the Seahawks and that “we expect Jordyn to be with us for a long time.” But that “we’ve got to orchestrate the way we move forward.”

While declining Brooks’ option could have signaled that the Seahawks were ready to move on, Carroll made it known that this wasn’t the case.

The Green Bay Packers, for instance, didn’t sign quarterback Jordan Love’s option but decided to re-sign him for another year instead.

The Seahawks could be looking to do something similar with Brooks, assuming they can come to a contractual agreement.

However, the Seahawks may want to act quickly if recent contracts are any indication.

Lately, players have been looking for increased amounts of guaranteed money.

The longer the Seahawks wait, the more expensive Brooks’ contract could turn out to be.

Last season, Brooks had 161 total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

His impact on the Seahawks’ defense was felt in full force last season, and if the team doesn’t extend his contract soon, he could be snatched up by another team.

The ball is officially in the Seahawks’ court when it comes to these contract negotiations with Brooks.

If they want to have the best chance of competing in the NFC West, keeping impact players like Brooks is a must.

There are several weeks left for the Seahawks to negotiate, but the clock is ticking.
