Getting to the line is key to success in the NBA.
Not only does that allow teams to stop the clock, get a breather, and score easy points without opposition but it also puts more pressure on the opposing defense, as the players get into foul trouble and cannot be as aggressive on that end of the floor.
Still, every now and then, some teams with opposing philosophies meet in the biggest stages.
That’s what’s happening with the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers.
As shown by StatMuse on Twitter, the Celtics have the highest free-throw differential (+93) in the playoffs, whereas the Pacers have the lowest (-100).

That means the Celtics have found quite the success looking for contact and being aggressive when they drive to the lane, while the Pacers haven’t done a great job of defending without fouling.
Of course, there could be more to that as well.
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle has been quite critical of officiating throughout the course of the playoffs.
Still, his team boasts the best offense in the postseason, so one can only imagine what they could do if they went to the line more often.
