There is always a lot of attention paid to the Los Angeles Lakers when they are searching for a new head coach.
But their current hunt for a new coach is gaining even more attention because of the team’s plans.
They apparently want someone who can lead the franchise for many years.
A recent report said that they view JJ Redick as a candidate who could be a Pat Riley-like coach for the next chapter of the team.
On Wednesday’s “Undisputed,” Keyshawn Johnson took aim at that comparison.
While both men played in the NBA, the similarities stop after that, Johnson said.
He also claimed that Redick could have a very tough time if this is his first head coaching job.

Riley ran the Lakers in the 1980s and led them during one of their most successful and historic eras.
What are the chances that Redick can do the same thing?
It seems a bit unlikely, especially since Redick has never been a head coach before.
In fact, he’s never even been an assistant coach, unlike Riley.
While Redick does have a ton of basketball knowledge and experience, that might not be enough to help the Lakers thrive.
As Johnson noted, most new head coaches usually take a few years to really find their footing.
But do the Lakers have a few years to spare?
They want to win as soon as possible, especially since LeBron James is inching closer and closer to retirement.
Redick could perhaps be a Riley-like leader down the road but how long will it take for him to get to the point?
And what happens to the team until then?
