Heading into the Western Conference Finals, the consensus was that the Minnesota Timberwolves would be able to take down the Dallas Mavericks with relative ease, especially after dispatching the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
In an interesting twist, the superstar duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving proved to be too much to handle for the defensive-minded Timberwolves, with the Mavericks pulling off the upset over Minnesota in five games to advance to the NBA Finals.
The Mavericks will face a similar scenario heading into the Finals to take on a very talented Boston Celtics team, with the 64-win team being the clear favorite to win the series ahead of Game 1 on Thursday at TD Garden.
Forward Derrick Jones Jr. is not a big fan of the “underdog” label the Mavericks have been given, as he believes his team can beat any opponent in a seven-game series, via Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints.
“We believe that we can beat anybody,” Jones said. “Underdog, I don’t like that really. Everybody going to keep putting that narrative on us… I don’t really think anybody can beat us in a seven-game series.”

With the Mavericks clearly not fearing the Celtics heading into this series, it’ll be interesting to see which team sets the tone and comes out on top in Game 1 on Thursday night in Boston.
Dallas could be up for the challenge of taking on a team that is talented on both ends of the floor and hungry to win what would be an NBA-record 18th NBA title.
