After forcing his way out of the Cleveland Cavaliers because he no longer wanted to play in the shadow of LeBron James, superstar guard Kyrie Irving looked to carve his own path and ended up landing in an ideal situation with some talented young players on the Boston Celtics.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, it turned out to be more of the same for Irving in Boston, as he couldn’t get content playing for the storied franchise and, as a result, left the team in NBA free agency to join forces with fellow superstar Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets.

The superstar pairing of Irving and Durant was thought to be a game-changer for Brooklyn with a new superpower being built in the Eastern Conference, but that stint also turned out to be a disaster, with the one-time NBA champion becoming more of a problem off the floor.

Ultimately, Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks before the NBA trade deadline last season, and the team ended up missing the playoffs, which was another stain on his career, which seemed to be trending downward.

Now, the move to Dallas, where he re-signed last summer, seems like a brilliant move resulting in another appearance in the NBA Finals, earning high praise from former NBA player Evan Turner, via ClutchPoints.

“He’s been coming through like it’s 2014-15,” Turner said. “He’s [been] coming through like he sees Steph [Curry] ahead of him… They were like, ‘He approaches some games like Kobe [Bryant].’”

Irving and Luka Doncic have turned out to be the ideal pairing in Dallas, with the two superstars forming arguably the best offensive backcourt the league has ever seen.

Doncic and Irving traded big shot after big shot in the Western Conference Finals, and they’ll hope to carry that over to the Finals, where they’ll face the formidable Celtics that pride themselves on the defensive end of the basketball floor.
