While it’s only now that Aaron Rodgers is officially a member of the New York Jets, this story has been months in the making.

Pundits, analysts, fans, and even former players urged Rodgers to ditch Wisconsin and take his talents to the Big Apple, and it has finally happened.

One of the biggest narratives about Rodgers’ potential arrival with the Jets was his jersey number choice.

Joe Namath had given him his blessing to unretire his No. 12 jersey if that was what it took to get him in Gotham green.

However, according to Ryan Wood, the four-time MVP doesn’t want to disrespect one of the greats of the game.

Aaron Rodgers said he heard what Joe Namath said about unretiring his 12 jersey for him, but out of respect that wasn’t going to happen: “To me, 12 is Broadway Joe. And I didn’t even want to go down that path. So I’m excited about going back to my college number.”

That’s why he decided to go back to No. 8, the jersey number he used during his days with the California Golden Bears.

It’s the dawn of a new era for the Jets, now more than ever.

Watching Rodgers wear another jersey will be a strange sight at first, but we got used to watching legends like Peyton Manning in Denver Broncos gear and Tom Brady in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform.

Of course, both of them also put the cherry on top of the sundae by leading their new franchises to a Super Bowl win, so Rodgers will most definitely want to join that club at some point before walking away from the game.

Maybe, a change of scenery and going back to basics is just what he needed to get back to the ultimate stage before riding into the sunset.
