Analyst Comments On The Potential Ceiling Of Victor Wembanyama

There has been a lot of talk about San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama and his potential in the NBA.

Some believe he’s got what it takes to be the best player ever, others believe he’s going to be a very good player, and there are — of course — those who think he’s going to be a bust.

Whatever the case, NBA analyst Jason Timpf believes it’ll be a long while before we actually get to see and realize how his career has turned out, via The Volume.

Timpf doesn’t think he’s going to have an impressive rookie season from a stats standpoint, adding that he’s unlikely to win NBA Rookie of the Year because other guys like Scoot Henderson will be putting up numbers from day one.

Per Timpf, it might take him a while before he reaches his ceiling, but he believes he’ll be the best offensive and defensive player in the league by season No. 5.

He also expects people to understand that and not rush to call him a bust or put even more unrealistic expectations on his shoulders, as he’s simply not likely to burst right out of the gate.

Of course, asking most fans to be rational and patient about an NBA prospect is pretty much impossible.

Wembanyama will be asked to post Wilt Chamberlain-like numbers right out of the gate and on a nightly basis, or fans — and even some pundits — will rush to call him a bust.

It’ll be up to him to stay mentally strong through all the backlash.
