Ever since the Los Angeles Lakers landed superstar Anthony Davis in a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, the storied NBA franchise has been relevant once again, with the team immediately going on to win its 17th NBA title.
However, Davis doesn’t come without some issues, as he can be pretty injury-prone and does not like playing the center position, as it can lead to injuries in the position that is more physical than power forward, where he wants to play.
It seems like every year, Davis lets it be known that he’d rather play power forward than center, and this year is no different, as he’s already dropped that hint to the media.
This year, the news came a little early, with training camp still a few weeks away, but it also came right after the team had signed big man Christian Wood, who can play either position in the frontcourt.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne thinks the Lakers shouldn’t call Davis their starting center but still play him at that position once he’s actually on the floor, as she said on NBA Today.
Along with recently signing Wood, the team also brought in center Jaxson Hayes earlier in the NBA offseason to help the team out in the frontcourt.
Unlike Wood and Davis, Hayes is a traditional center, but he isn’t a great defender, so it’ll be interesting to see what head coach Darvin Ham does with his starting lineup.
Fortunately for Ham, he’s got options and will have the ability to be flexible, which could bode well for Davis.
