The Denver Broncos looked like a team destined to finish the season with a bottom-three record, but that’s no longer the case.
Sean Payton’s troops have straightened the course, turning the corner after some subpar performances early in the season to get right back on track for a playoff berth.
Russell Wilson has played fairly better, not making mistakes and making better reads than he did last season, and developing some chemistry with Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy.
Nonetheless, the defense has once again been the Broncos’ calling card.
As pointed out by NFL insider Field Yates, the Broncos’ defense has held Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen to 39 of 64 passing (60.9%), just one passing touchdown, four interceptions, and 31 total points allowed in their last two games.

This is only more remarkable if you consider the fact that this is the same defense that allowed the Miami Dolphins to put up 70 points on them — the second-highest mark in NFL history — just over a month ago.
The Broncos’ defense had kept them in contention last season, which is why it was such a major surprise to see them struggle this badly earlier in the campaign, especially with an experienced DC like Vance Joseph leading the way.
The Broncos are now riding a three-game winning streak and are just one game outside of the Wild Card picture.
They held onto their stars past the trade deadline, and with the second half of the season ahead of them, they look like a legitimate threat to make the playoffs.
