The Minnesota Timberwolves dethroned the reigning NBA champions on Sunday, beating the Denver Nuggets, 98-90, and earning their spot in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.
It was a huge moment for the team and a massive victory.
And according to Craig Carton, it was also a classic example of a team choking.
On “The Carton Show,” Carton said that the Nuggets got too complacent with their big first-half lead and didn’t do enough to hold onto it.
Their heads weren’t in the game in the right ways, leading to the Timberwolves slowly but surely chipping away until they claimed the lead.
“The Denver Nuggets choked,” Carton said plainly.

The Timberwolves were down by 15 points at halftime while playing in Denver, which wasn’t a good sign for the team.
But they continually kept playing hard and never lost faith in themselves.
Even players who had a lukewarm first half, like Anthony Edwards, pushed hard into the second half of the game and looked revitalized and fired up.
Earlier in the day, the New York Knicks also suffered a loss but Carton said they didn’t choke like Denver did.
They fought hard but were just outdone due to injuries and a fiercely competitive Indiana Pacers team.
But that wasn’t the case with the Nuggets, who seemed to go too easy on the Timberwolves because they thought they had the game in the bag.
Now they are starting their summer vacation and have no chance of being back-to-back champions.
Many people will say Denver’s loss was a result of them choking but others will state that it was due to the Timberwolves being a better and more driven team.
