New York Giants fans can finally rest assured that their starting running back will be on the field next season.
Saquon Barkley signed a one-year deal worth $11 million, putting an end to one of the biggest storylines of the offseason.
Barkley didn’t want to play under the franchise tag and wanted more money than the Giants were willing to pay him.
The Giants lowballed him over and over, even risking him not playing throughout the whole campaign, and he wound up settling for less than he wanted anyways.
That’s why sports analyst Craig Carton believes the Giants won in this deal, especially because there’s absolutely no clause that prevents them from placing him under the franchise tag again next season.

That means that if Barkley ends up having a great season, they can just tag him again, and he’ll have to settle for that condition and take whichever amount the tag is worth at the moment without a long-term deal in sight.
Carton also talked about all the talking Barkley did about principles and taking the money he was worth and deserving of, just to end up signing this one-year-deal shortly before the start of training camp.
Truth be told, this is a huge win for the Giants, but it’s a major loss for the running back market.
Barkley pretty much caved in and proved to be bluffing about holding out for the season, even though the Giants desperately needed him back on the field to have a chance to make the playoffs this season.
