Brad Stevens Confirms Celtics’ HC Situation

With the NBA offseason now underway for the Boston Celtics after the team failed to get the best of the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, a lot of work needs to be done in Beantown to prepare for next season and another shot at hanging an 18th banner at TD Garden.

Along with the team needing to figure out whether two-time All-Star Jaylen Brown will be in their long-term plans, Brad Stevens and company have to decide if Joe Mazzulla is their head coach moving forward.

As we’ve seen with many prominent head coaches lately, job security isn’t guaranteed even for big-name coaches, which means the Celtics could very well show Mazzulla the door after one season.

However, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, it seems as though Mazzulla may have earned the right to coach for at least one more year in Boston, with Stevens confirming he will be the team’s head coach moving forward.

With Monty Williams, Ime Udoka, and Nick Nurse agreeing to take new jobs and the Celtics unlikely to bring Doc Rivers back into the fold, Boston sticking with Mazzulla for another season might be a wise decision.

Although there are still some viable candidates out there like Frank Vogel, Kenny Atkinson, and Mike Budenholzer, the one thing the Celtics haven’t had over the years is some stability at head coach, which might be vital to unlocking this team moving forward.

It’ll be interesting to see if Stevens sticks to his word here or ultimately decides to make a change, but it seems like Mazzulla is safe for the 2023-24 NBA season.
