The Los Angeles Lakers are hard at work looking for a new head coach to lead them next year and the entire front office is involved in the search.
But one person not involved is the team’s biggest star, LeBron James.
Appearing on “Get Up,” Brian Windhorst reported that James “does not want to be involved in the coaching search.”
He said that he doesn’t want to have the selection of this new coach on his shoulders and is leaving the decision up to the team’s management.
“LeBron does not want to be involved in the coaching search. … He does not want to have this coach on his shoulders. This is the Lakers’ decision.”

Some people might find this hard to believe due to James’ past.
Throughout his career, it has been rumored that he’s had a hand in multiple coaching hirings and firings.
Therefore, people expected the same to be true this time.
When a player is as consequential and impactful as James, they are able to get their way and influence who coaches them.
And while that may have been true in the past, it apparently isn’t true this time and the selection of the new coach in LA is up to the Lakers’ front office alone.
This will likely be the last coach James ever plays for because he is nearing the end of his career and it’s expected that this new selection will remain with the Lakers for years to come.
That makes his lack of involvement in this search even more intriguing.
But James isn’t focusing on who will coach him.
Instead, he is working on getting himself and his team in good shape so they can have a much better 2024-25 season in a few months.
