A few days ago, St. Louis Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak created a stir when rumors began to circulate about a potential Nolan Arenado trade.
However, the dust has settled.
On Saturday, Mozeliak confirmed that the Cardinals will not be trading their star third baseman.
St. Louis has had an uncharacteristically bad season, taking a record of 46-60 into Sunday’s series finale against the rival Chicago Cubs.
However, this ultimately confirms that Arenado is not leaving St. Louis anytime soon, barring a trade request.
On Twitter, John Denton, who covers the Cardinals for MLB.com revealed the news of Mozeliak’s decision not to trade Arenado.

Mozeliak stated that the Cardinals are looking to build for the future, and that Arenado is a key piece of that future.
The star third baseman was the lone Cardinals representative at the All-Star Game in Seattle this year.
He finished third in the voting for the National League MVP last season, an award which was ultimately won by his Cardinals teammate Paul Goldschmidt.
The veteran slugger is having yet another impressive season, hitting .282 with 22 home runs and 77 RBI.
The 32-year-old does possess a full no-trade clause in his contract, which he waived to come to St. Louis in the first place.
However, despite the Cardinals’ struggles, Arenado has made it clear that he wants to remain in St. Louis.
His contract runs through the 2027 season.
Arenado chose not to exercise the final opt-out clause in his contract at the end of the 2022 season.
