The New York Yankees are counting on Carlos Rodon to have a great season if they are about to take over the AL East.
The left-hander struggled with back and forearm injuries last year and posted a horrible 6.85 ERA.
He turned the page, made some adjustments, and reported in better shape this time around, hoping for a rebound campaign.
Spring training numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt, but before taking the ball against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, he had thrown 2.2 innings with one run allowed, two walks, and five punchouts.
On Wednesday, his day wasn’t off to the best of starts thanks to Yandy Diaz, who sent the first ball he saw to the moon.

After that hiccup, Rodon appeared to settle down and retired that inning and the next one.
Then, in his third frame, he allowed a two-run blast to Richie Palacios.
He was able to complete the inning, but his line wasn’t overly encouraging: three frames, five hits, three runs (all earned), a walk, and a strikeout.
His spring ERA is now 6.35.
He wound up getting the loss.
The Yankees, however, don’t seem to be overly concerned about the outing: it’s too early, and it’s exhibition ball.
If he is healthy, Rodon will be much, much better than what he showed in 2023.
Prior to joining the Yanks, he posted consecutive sub-3.00 ERA seasons in 2021 and 2022.
The talent is still there: it’s a matter of finding consistent mechanics and feeling 100 percent.
