Chiefs Will Likely Start This Season Without 2 Key Players

The Kansas City Chiefs begin defending their title run with a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Many pundits across the league believe the Chiefs have the best chance of winning the Super Bowl again this year.

However, recent reports could put that in jeopardy, as two of their best players could miss time.

According to Adam Schefter, Andy Reid was non-commital about Travis Kelce and said there has been “no progress” with Chris Jones.

While saying “We’ll just see how he does going forward,” about injured TE Travis Kelce, Chiefs’ HC Andy Reid also said there has been “no progress” in talks with holdout defensive tackle Chris Jones with Thursday’s NFL season opener vs the Lions looming.

With this in mind, many Chiefs fans are preparing themselves to not see either player in the season opener.

Jones’ holdout is not a major surprise, as he has held out for the entirety of training camp.

However, Kelce’s injury popped up in a practice two days before their season opener.

Kelce has been a staple of the Chiefs offense, especially given his relationship with Patrick Mahomes.

He continues to be the team’s top target-getter, a reliable option in the passing game.

If he is truly unavailable, the Chiefs offense will look markedly different in this game against the pesky Lions.

With this in mind, the Chiefs may have to turn to their receivers for additional production.

The good news for the Chiefs is that Kelce’s injury does not appear to be too serious.

With any luck, he will miss just a game or two before returning to one of the league’s best offenses.

Can they perform well in his absence, something they haven’t needed to do in recent history?
