About a month after winning their third Super Bowl championship of the Patrick Mahomes era, the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster looks like it will be largely intact heading into the 2024 season.

While starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed could end up getting traded, as he received their franchise tag, pass rusher Chris Jones will be returning on a new contract that will pay him nearly $159 million over five years.

While there was some anxiety over the last several months about him possibly leaving, he said he never planned on doing so, per Jordan Foote.

“For me, that was the plan from the beginning. Since you guys drafted me, I never planned to play for another organization,” Jones said, per Foote.

Jones held out of training camp last offseason because he was looking for a big extension, but he returned in time to play in Week 2.

He had a solid season with 10.5 sacks, 29 quarterback hits, and 13 tackles for loss, earning him his fifth straight Pro Bowl selection.

Jones was big in the Super Bowl, keeping San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in check, and he blitzed Purdy on a key play in crunch time to prevent him from throwing what could’ve been the championship-winning touchdown.

The Chiefs evolved during the 2023 season — without any real threats at wide receiver, they became more conservative on offense while winning largely on the defensive side of the football.

They finished the regular season second in both points allowed and total yards given up.

Kansas City is now a legitimate dynasty, and with Jones turning 30 years of age in July, that dynasty seems poised to add at least one more championship ring in the next few years.
