Chris Russo Says James Harden Doesn’t Deserve A Max Deal

We could know what’s next for Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden very soon.

Will he remain with the Sixers and take another run at the playoffs next season?

Or will he pack his bags and head back to the Houston Rockets or another team in the league?

Some people wonder if Harden will receive a maximum contract extension from the 76ers this summer.

Chris Russo thinks the team would be absolutely silly to do so.

“Absolutely not,” Russo said enthusiastically when asked if Harden deserves a max contract on Wednesday’s First Take.

Russo didn’t stop there:

“He is so overrated on a day-in, day-out basis. There are games where he plays where you say, ‘Wow, what a performance.’…Then in the next four or five games, he does nothing. He does absolutely nothing.”

Followers of Harden have heard this complaint before.

At times, it is very hard to ignore.

Indeed, Harden certainly had yet another up-and-down postseason.

He would post epic numbers one night and follow that up with a performance that would leave fans hanging their heads low.

This is not the way a player performs when he wants a max contract, Russo argued.

At this point, the 76ers – or any other team in the league – know what they will get with Harden.

He will have breakout games and will impress the crowds during the regular season.

He will then have issues in the playoffs but will still come in clutch at times too.

He will show flashes of brilliance but they will only be that: flashes.

Any team that signs Harden is taking a chance and they are aware that they could get a very different player from one night to the next.

This means that a maximum contract would be a huge gamble.

Yet, interest in signing Harden remains.

He will surely generate a lot of excitement from other front offices if he decides to leave Philadelphia this summer.
