The Chicago Cubs haven’t been playing the best baseball as of late.
However, that doesn’t mean that things are all gloom and doom on the North Side of Chicago.
In fact, there has been a silver lining in all of this.
Slugger Christopher Morel, who hit 16 home runs last season as a rookie, was recently called up to the Major Leagues.
Since then, he has been on an absolute tear.
The 23-year-old has hit nine home runs and owns a batting average of .367, an on-base percentage of .404, a slugging percentage of .980, and an OPS of 1.383.
He also homered in his fifth straight game on Tuesday night against the New York Mets.
On MLB Network, analysts discussed Morel’s breakout season and what it means for the Cubs.

Morel’s five-game homer streak is something that has not been accomplished by a Cubs player since Sammy Sosa did it in 1998 during the epic home run chase.
A graphic was also shown, which features a list of Cubs players with the most consecutive games with an extra-base hit.
Morel has picked up an extra-base hit in each of his last eight games.
That puts one away from tying Cubs legend Derrek Lee’s mark from 2007.
Morel is tied with Augie Galan, Chuck Klein, and current MLB Network analyst Mark DeRosa.
DeRosa accomplished this feat in 2008, his final season as a member of the Cubs.
But it’s safe to say that Morel is on an impressive hot streak and is close to making some Cubs history in terms of extra-base hits and home runs.
Morel is now just seven homers away from tying his total from last season.
