The Boston Celtics hung banner No. 18 last night and are once again in the lead for most NBA Championships of all time after putting away the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 in dominant fashion, and now fans have a few months to digest everything that happened this postseason.

Colin Cowherd shared his thoughts on his episode of The Herd this morning and made some strong points about how the Celtics were able to get to this stage and win another title.

Cowherd said that this title was an example of a total team effort, saying “This was a collaborative basketball effort over alpha guy” and praised the front office for making the necessary changes after falling short once again last season, saying the idea became “team over Tatum” and pointing out how they have a “bizarrely deep roster.”

Cowherd said that the Denver Nuggets would have been a better matchup for the Celtics and that the Mavericks were a “pinata” for them, continually praising the efficient, team-first model the Celtics adopted and comparing them to the New England Patriots dynasty of recent years.

He stopped short of calling the Celtics an all-time great team and acknowledged it’s too early to have that conversation, even though they rolled through the playoffs and went 16-3, which combined with their regular season had them at 80-21 on the year.

The Celtics are in a great position to run it back next season since their entire core is under contract, which is a scary thought for fans of other teams.
