At this same time last season, the New York Giants caught some heavy fire for giving Daniel Jones a big contract extension.

Some analysts thought they would’ve been better off using the franchise tag on him and paying Saquon Barkley instead.

Fast forward to today, and Barkley is no longer on the team, and there have been multiple reports about the team having second thoughts about their quarterback.

There were countless rumors about the Giants looking to get another quarterback in the NFL Draft.

Eventually, however, they decided to give him another weapon by taking Malik Nabers with the No. 6 selection.

Recently, Jones shared his thoughts on this situation, admitting that he was quite fired up to hear about all those rumors (via Giants Videos).

Still, he also claimed that he would only focus on what he could focus on, which is to play to the best of his ability.

Jones had a promising first season under HC Brian Daboll, logging the best numbers of his career.

The bar wasn’t very high, and his numbers weren’t MVP-caliber, but there was still a glimpse of hope for him.

Now, that may no longer be the case, and his contract structure will put plenty of pressure to deliver in 2024, as the team could move on from him after that season.

The Giants will look very differently next year, starting with Barkley’s absence, but they should also have a better defense.

As for Jones, he won’t have that much margin for error anymore.
