The New York Giants didn’t make all that many additions in the offseason, but one of the few they made was supposed to be quite impactful.
They traded a third-round pick to get Las Vegas Raiders star tight end Darren Waller, and while he was able to make his debut despite playing through a hamstring issue, it seems like he won’t be on the field for Week 2.
According to ProFootballTalk, Waller didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice, and it seems like his status for Sunday’s road matchup vs. the Arizona Cardinals is in serious jeopardy.
To make things worse, this is the same hamstring injury that forced him to end up on Injured Reserve (IR) last year with the Raiders and limited his season to just nine games and 28 receptions.
Now, he believes this could be a little more than just a muscle strain, adding that it could be a nerve issue.

Waller played 38 snaps in the Giants’ disastrous season-opener, hauling in three receptions for 36 yards.
Needless to say, this could be a massive blow for a passing game that’s not as impressive as one would hope, and Daniel Jones could have an even tougher time finding guys.
When healthy, Waller is one of the most dominant and efficient pass-catching tight ends in the league.
He can block, pile up yards after the catch, and manhandle his defender as a perennial mismatch.
But it doesn’t seem like he can stay on the field, which is the primary reason why the Raiders made him available in the first place.
