Months ago, the New York Knicks gave up RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round pick to get OG Anunoby.

The former Toronto Raptors star was the wing-stopper they needed, and it didn’t take long before this proved to be the right decision for the organization.

Nonetheless, this move also came with some risk, as he was set to become a free agent, and it could’ve been just a rental.

That’s why the front office is reportedly determined to pay as much as it takes to re-sign him, especially after watching the major impact he had on their stellar defense.

According to Knicks insider Fred Katz, Anunoby could land $35 million or $40 million annually in his next contract, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get $150+ million in the summer (Via Evan Sidery).

Anunoby is an elite defensive player, and he can also contribute on the offensive end of the floor with his slashing and his newly found shooting stroke from beyond the arc.

He’s a perfect fit for Tom Thibodeau’s gritty and physical team, and while the Knicks still need to find another star to round out their roster, they’re not that far behind in the race for an NBA championship.

Injuries and depth got in their way this season, yet they have a strong core of role players, and it should be an easy decision for Anunoby if they’re willing to meet his asking price.

Then again, he’s also going to fetch plenty of interest from other teams, so they must act quickly and aggressively to get a deal done.
