After months of debate and speculation over who would and should be named NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season, the league announced that superstar center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers had won the regular-season award.
The consensus was this was a two-man race between Embiid and Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic, who won the award the last two years.
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks was a finalist, it seemed inevitable the award would go to Embiid or Jokic, with the scales tilting in the direction of the face of the Philadelphia franchise.
With Embiid officially the MVP for the 2022-23 campaign, the reactions are pouring in from pundits and his peers around the league, like Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, who praised the 76ers superstar on his podcast.
“To put that pressure on yourself and actually go deliver, I got a bunch of love and respect for that”

Embiid has been highly vocal about this regular-season award for a few years now, as he believes he should’ve won it over Jokic last year, which is debatable.
In 66 games during the regular season, Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 54.8% from the floor and 33% from beyond the arc.
Unfortunately for Embiid, a knee sprain has limited his play in the NBA playoffs thus far, as he missed the first game of the second-round series against the Boston Celtics.
However, the 76ers got the best of the Celtics in Game 1, with James Harden putting on a show and helping shoulder the load for his injured teammate.
Embiid is expected to return from the knee injury in Game 2 in Boston on Wednesday night.
