Just two years after winning their latest NBA championship, the Golden State Warriors face a very uncertain immediate future after losing in this year’s play-in tournament.
Klay Thompson, who has been their second-best player for many years, is about to become a free agent, and it is unknown how much of an effort they will make to keep him.
Draymond Green, who has been the Warriors’ emotional and spiritual leader for the past decade, is under contract through the 2026-27 season, and he was asked by Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast” if he would ever “ring chase” at the end of his career.
Green said he would only join another team if the Warriors wouldn’t want him to stay anymore and if that other team would greatly need him, and he also said he’d rather struggle with the same players he has succeeded with than instantly leave to chase a fifth ring.
“I’d rather struggle with the same guys that I succeeded with…”

The power forward’s stats have never been impressive on their own, but he has always done so much for one of the greatest teams in recent NBA history.
He has been the Warriors’ main ball-handler alongside Curry, arguably their best rebounder, and their defensive standout.
Some fans have felt the team hasn’t really needed Green in order to continue to be successful, but if he were to leave, the team would be hard-pressed to replace his production across the board.
One has to respect Green’s desire to remain loyal to players such as Curry rather than wanting to pack up and leave at the very first opportunity to win another world championship.
