After an ugly divorce with the Boston Celtics following a brilliant first season as head coach for the storied NBA franchise, Ime Udoka’s future has been uncertain, with no telling when he’d get another opportunity to coach in the league.
Fortunately for Udoka, he didn’t have to wait long to find a new coaching gig in the NBA, with the Houston Rockets agreeing to bring him in to be Stephen Silas’ successor.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Udoka will start his second stint as a head coach in the league in Houston.

EXACTLY the kinda coach Houston needed! Silas had lost the lock room and the Rockets looked like a YMCA team out there sometimes. Rockets will be relevant again in 2 seasons or so

Although the Rockets have been one of the worst teams in the league since trading superstar guard James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets in January of 2021, the team could be back on the rise in the very near future, especially if they land Scoot Henderson or Victor Wembanyama in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The prospect of bringing in one of these promising young players may have been the draw for Udoka and other notable coaching candidates.
Along with possibly being able to draft one of those potential franchise players in the draft, the Rockets already have some talented young players like Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., Kenyon Martin Jr. and Jabari Smith Jr.
It’s doubtful the Rockets will be a title contender in the next few years, but if they can continue putting talented players together in Houston with Udoka leading the way, Houston could make some noise sooner rather than later.
