Former NBA All-Star Names 2 Young Guards Who ‘Retired’ Him

It’s one thing to make it to the NBA and a whole different thing to actually have a long career in the league.

Even if veterans and bottom-of-the-bench NBA players are in much better shape than the average person, they still have to keep up with those young and up-and-coming hoopers who are ready to make a name for themselves.

That’s why some of them realize they just can’t perform at the level they used to and walk away from the game while they still have some dignity.

Notably, that was the case with former Atlanta Hawks star Jeff Teague.

In the latest edition of the Club 520 Podcast (Via SBWells), the former All-Star opened up on how De’Aaron Fox and Darius Garland made him want to retire.

Teague started off by stating that Fox actually made him want to come off the bench, as he just couldn’t keep up with his speed and his change of direction, and jokingly stated that his knees were still hurting from that.

The former Milwaukee Bucks player stated that he thought Fox was trying to kill him for dunking on him before, and he sure paid the price for it.

As for Garland, he didn’t dive deep into details, but he did shout him out and claimed that he was the one who made him want to retire from the NBA.

That puts in context just how difficult it is to thrive in the league, and why just a handful of players manage to be starters for a decade-plus.
