After bringing a lot of attention to the women’s game in college basketball, Caitlin Clark decided to enter the 2024 WNBA Draft, and as a result, she was selected by the Indiana Fever with the No. 1 overall pick.
Clark’s rise to superstardom was quite a thing to see as she put Iowa on the map for college basketball while receiving direct comparisons to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry due to her incredible shooting ability and range.
Clark brought so much attention to the women’s game this past year that the women’s NCAA Tournament became must-see TV while the men’s tournament took a backseat to the women’s for the first time ever.
Along with Clark making women’s basketball must-see TV on the college level as well as in the beginning of her career with the Fever in the WNBA, there seems to be a lot of hatred towards the Indiana superstar, as she’s been roughed up quite a bit early in his first season.
Despite Clark taking the WNBA to another level entirely, she is dealing with many haters in the league who seem to resent the attention she’s getting while not paying attention to what she’s done for the women’s game.
Former NBA star Austin Rivers took to his Twitter account to comment on what has been going on in the WNBA and how he believes the jealousy needs to stop.
We gotta stop the cap and all the hate some of y’all Woman are putting on Caitlin. Lbh on why people have such high interest all of sudden in woman’s basketball. The Caitlin Clark effect!!! It’s not only because of her, but it is mainly because of her! Cut the jealousy please…. pic.twitter.com/qyCcpdKIxD

Needless to say, Clark has been precisely what the WNBA and the women’s game general has needed for a very long time.
Only time will tell what kind of impact Clark has long-term and whether she gets the respect she deserves.
