There was a feeling recently that three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was going to join the New York Jets, especially after it was reported they would have an extensive in-person meeting with him.
But Beckham instead decided to play for the Baltimore Ravens, who gave him a one-year, $15 million deal on Monday.
Jets fans are likely disappointed their team didn’t land him, but former offensive lineman Damien Woody, who spent his last three seasons with the team, says it didn’t need Beckham.
OBJ was a want…not a need. Focus on the OL & it’ll be all good #Jets

Beckham is coming off two ACL injuries in a span of less than 18 months, and naturally there are questions about exactly what type of level he will be able to play at moving forward.
However, New York may have just enough firepower at wideout in order to return to the playoffs next season, especially if they can land future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Garrett Wilson is the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year after rolling off 1,103 yards and four touchdowns, while Allen Lazard, who played five seasons with Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers, is perhaps a very solid WR2.
Of course, the Jets’ main strength is on the defensive side of the football, where they ranked fourth in points and total yards allowed in 2022.
There, they’re led by Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner and All-Pro first-team defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
The AFC will be very tough next year, but if Rodgers does join the Jets, they should have a real shot at their first postseason berth since 2010.
