The New England Patriots were one of the most successful teams in the NFL for nearly 20 years, with large thanks to Tom Brady.
Since Brady left the organization, the team has been in search of its newest franchise quarterback.
They drafted Mac Jones in 2021 and had high hopes that he could serve as Brady’s replacement.
Recent reporting has dictated that the Patriots might be looking to move on from Jones if the right quarterback becomes available.
In a segment on Good Morning Football, former Patriots player Jason McCourty cautioned the organization about quickly moving on from Jones.
“The sky was the limit for him after his rookie year, so I think these rumblings and everything we keep hearing, we need to slow down,” said McCourty.

During his rookie season, Jones threw for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
He did take a step back, at least from a statistical sense in 2022.
Last year, Jones had 2,997 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
However, during the offseason thus far, the Patriots have signed several offensive weapons to assist Jones, including JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Later, McCourty also said, “Be careful what you wish for, in hopes of there’s something better on the other side and that grass is greener because Mac was really good in his rookie year.”
He also added, “Let’s see what he can become.”
The Patriots’ organization has been known to help develop players, helping establish them during their NFL careers.
If Jones is their franchise quarterback moving forward, he will need to take another step in production during the 2023 season.
