The Golden State Warriors, who just missed the playoffs this season only two years after winning the NBA championship, could take another step toward irrelevancy this summer.
Klay Thompson, the five-time All-Star who was a major part of their four championship teams over the last decade, is about to become a free agent, and there has been lots of speculation about what he may end up doing.
Theo Pinson, a former wing who spent five seasons in the league, advised Thompson to leave because, in his mind, the Warriors don’t recognize Thompson’s value, per Legion Hoops.
Theo Pinson has some advice for Klay Thompson:
“Golden State doesn’t see your value… Leave… There are other teams that they like. ‘F*** that, Klay, we want you here’… And when you feel that, you will play better.”

Thompson may still have legitimate value on the open market, but that value has significantly diminished over the last few years.
He was once one of the greatest perimeter shooters in the history of basketball, as well as an above-average defender, and along with Stephen Curry, he formed one of the greatest backcourts in league history.
But he tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals, and after missing all of the 2019-20 season as a result, he tore his Achilles and sat out all of the following season.
Since then, Thompson has shown some flashes of his old self, but by and large, his shooting prowess has been sporadic, and he isn’t the defensive asset he used to be.
According to basketball-reference.com, the Warriors had the highest payroll in the NBA this season, and that alone may necessitate them letting Thompson leave in order to be able to get younger and replenish their roster with new blood.
