The New Orleans Pelicans have arguably one of the most talented young rosters in the league right now, with high upside if the team can ever figure out how to get the best out of superstar forward Zion Williamson.
Coming into the 2023-24 NBA regular season, the Pelicans were determined to see what they have with their roster and whether Williamson would be able to stay healthy for the 82-game grind.
So far, Williamson has done well in terms of being able to stay on the basketball floor this season, as he’s played 20 games up to this point while averaging 22.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
Although these are decent numbers from Williamson, the team believes he can do better and has openly criticized the promising young forward’s conditioning and diet to the point where it has become the main topic of discussion in New Orleans.
Two former Pelicans, Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins, believe they know how to fix the Pelicans’ Zion problem in the Big Easy, as they explained to Rachel Nichols on the “Bully Ball” podcast, via Showtime Basketball.

Cousins and Rondo don’t believe the Pelicans have put the right pieces around Williamson in order to get the best out of the former No. 1 overall pick.
Rondo says Kevin Garnett was the right player to get the best out of him while he was with the Boston Celtics, and Williamson needs someone like that in order to get him going and reach his true potential.
Time might be running out for Williamson in New Orleans, as it remains to be seen how much longer the team is willing to deal with the superstar not reaching his potential.
