The New York Mets dropped their first five games of the 2024 season.

However, their fortunes appear to be starting to turn around, as they have been victorious in three of the last four.

Their 3-6 record still dictates that there is a lot of work to be done, but they finally seem to be playing consistent and competitive baseball.

It was about time.

On Sunday, they defeated the talented Cincinnati Reds, 3-1, to take the series, and their win can be largely attributed to the play of a struggling star: Francisco Lindor.

Lindor went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run and propelled the Mets to victory.

As hard to believe as it may sound, those were his first extra-base hits of the young campaign.

His teammate, fellow countryman and friend Edwin Diaz, dedicated an Instagram post to him, according to SNY Mets.

Edwin Díaz on Instagram:

Diaz knows how important Lindor is to the Mets’ success this season.

Everybody wants to keep him happy and motivated because he is good enough to lead the way for New York.

He was off to a miserable start at the plate.

It was so bad that even after the big performance on Sunday, Lindor’s OPS for the year is at .404.

We all know what he is capable of, though.

Last year, he posted a .806 OPS with 33 doubles, 31 home runs, and 31 stolen bases.

That’s how good and versatile he is; and we haven’t even mentioned the fact he plays some of the best shortstop defense in the league.

The Mets are slowly surging, and Lindor has the potential to be the main man behind a furious turnaround.
