Gardner Minshew Reveals His Thoughts On Being Named Starter

With the start of the NFL season just a couple of weeks from now, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has finally made up his mind.

It wasn’t easy, and it definitely wasn’t pretty, but he’s finally chosen his starting quarterback.

Gardner Minshew will take the reins of the offense, with Aidan O’Connell as his backup.

And while some people might not be that excited about that, he’s clearly ecstatic about getting this opportunity.

When asked his thoughts about being the starter, the Washington State product claimed to be very excited about the team, adding that they’re all on the same page and truly believe that they can win at the highest level (via Sean Zittel & Vegas Sports Today).

“I’m so excited for this team, I think everyone in this locker room feels how special we can be….it’s all about winning.”

Despite his charisma, Minshew has proven multiple times that he may not be cut out to be a starter in the National Football League.

He’s one of the best backups any team could ask for, both in terms of leadership and talent.

To be fair, the Indianapolis Colts stayed in playoff and divisional contention with him at the helm for most of last season when Anthony Richardson fell with an injury.

The Raiders will be a defensive-minded, gritty, and tough team that will look to win games in the trenches.

They shouldn’t rely on Minshew as heavily as other teams would.

Also, this experiment might be short-lived, as even if he fares well this season, the team might look to find an alternative for the future in the draft or free agency once and for all.
