The New York Yankees have had a bit of a tough season so far.
They sit above the .500 mark but currently reside in last place in the ever-competitive American League East division.
On Tuesday, veteran right-hander Gerrit Cole gave them six strong innings against the Cleveland Guardians while allowing two runs, three walks, and five hits alongside eight strikeouts.
Because of that performance and several others leading up to it, the 32-year-old received an elite honor on Wednesday.
Cole, who signed with the Yankees ahead of the 2020 season, was given the March/April American League Pitcher of the Month Award.
On Twitter, the Yankees posted a graphic celebrating Cole’s accomplishment.

Cole joined the Yankees on a nine-year, $324 million contract back in 2019.
While he put together several solid seasons for New York, Cole had yet to regain the form that inspired the Yankees to sign him in the first place.
However, that all changed when the 2023 season began.
The veteran ace went 5-0 in six starts and posted a microscopic 1.11 ERA.
His last start of the month came on Thursday against the Texas Rangers, where Cole earned his fifth win of the season.
This has been Cole’s best season with the Yankees so far.
Last season, he posted a respectable 3.50 ERA but has still yet to recapture that 2019 form.
That year, he helped guide the Houston Astros to the World Series by winning 20 games and posting an ERA of 2.50 in 33 starts and 212.1 innings of work.
This year, Cole appears to have found his old form again and is pitching like the ace the Yankees expected him to be.
