After a very disappointing 2023 NFL season, finishing in last place in the AFC West division with a 5-12 record, the Los Angeles Chargers headed into the offseason expecting to make some game-changing moves, which the team did quickly by hiring Jim Harbaugh to replace Brandon Staley at head coach.
With Harbaugh in the fold, some fireworks were expected moving forward, as he knew the team had to make some drastic changes to fix its cap space situation while also trying to keep the team competitive so that it could contend sooner rather than later.
Although the Chargers were quiet to start the free agency process on Monday, the team eventually made its first move in the Harbaugh era, as the team had agreed to terms with running back Gus Edwards.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Edwards plans to sign with the Chargers once players are allowed to do so on March 13 later this week.

With veteran running back Austin Ekeler seemingly having no intention of returning to the team, the Chargers going out and getting Edwards was a smart move by Harbaugh and company.
Ironically enough, Harbaugh’s first move was stealing one of his brother’s players on the Baltimore Ravens.
Edwards is coming off the best season of his career in the NFL, as he racked up 990 yards from scrimmage while also scoring a career-high 13 touchdowns, which is seven touchdowns better than his previous career-high total of six.
Needless to say, the Chargers have found a formidable replacement for Ekeler and might not miss a beat at the running back position.
