The New York Yankees have built a very solid team with serious World Series aspirations.

A simple chat with any fan would tell you, however, that they have two indispensable players: Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole.

Fans, the organization, players, and coaches on the Yankees got some frightening news on Monday regarding one of those two players.

“Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will have an MRI on his right elbow, manager Aaron Boone told reporters today. Cole is coming off winning the American League Cy Young Award and has had difficulty bouncing back between spring training starts, Boone said,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.

The words “MRI” and “elbow” combined are scary, especially when the team ace and reigning AL Cy Young winner is the one behind them.

As a result of the news, everybody in the Yankees universe is holding their breath until the results of the MRI are known.

It could be nothing – although it’s safe to say that even the best-case scenario will likely result in at least a few days off – or it could be an extended absence if the MRI finds structural damage in his elbow and/or ligaments.

The MRI will tell the whole story.

Cole has been a model of health for quite some time now.

He has combined effectiveness and availability like few pitchers in the game, in an era in which injuries and more and more frequent.

The Yankees didn’t reveal when the results of the tests would be made public, but fans won’t rest easy until then.
