The 2022-23 NBA season didn’t go well for the Memphis Grizzlies, who went from a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference to a team marred by off-the-court distractions and drama.
Although getting crushed by the seventh-seeded Los Angeles Lakers in the first round was rough, the Grizzlies will have a chance to bounce back with a vengeance next season with a clean slate and a veteran point guard to fill Ja Morant’s shoes for the first 25 games of the year in Marcus Smart.
However, this summer, there will be some house cleaning for Memphis, with the team already letting it be known that Dillon Brooks is not in their plans, as they will not attempt to re-sign the free agent to be.
With Brooks making a spectacle of himself in the NBA playoffs by disrespecting LeBron James, there’s no telling what the market will be like for the veteran forward, but he does have an asking price, according to Marc Stein via Legion Hoops.

In the modern era of the NBA, $12 million per season is a pretty reasonable asking price for a starting-caliber player that excels on the defensive end of the basketball floor.
The only problem for Brooks moving forward is if he’s ruined his reputation in the league due to his antics in Memphis during the playoffs and if any team is willing to take on a player that can become a big distraction off the floor.
Ultimately, some team in desperate need of improvement on defense will take a chance on Brooks, even if they have to sign him to a one-year deal or two years with a team option in the second year.
