J.J. Redick Says Celtics Veteran Should Be Included In Recent NBA Ranking

The Boston Celtics have a plethora of stars.

Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis also get most of the spotlight, but they’re not the only big hoopers on the team.

Brad Stevens has done a solid job of putting plenty of elite role players around his stars, and that includes Derrick White.

With that in mind, former NBA player J.J. Redick put ESPN’s rankings on blast for not even having him as a top-100 player.

In the latest edition of the Old Man & The Three, the former sharpshooter claimed that White should be considered a top-50 player, stating that the so-called experts don’t have any sort of credibility and probably didn’t even watch him perform in the playoffs last season (via NBA Central).

“Of these 150 people who claim to be basketball experts, how is Derrick White not in the top 100? How is that possible? He’s a top 50 player. What playoff games were you watching last year?… It’s a troll for engagement. That’s all it is.”

Redick added that these rankings are nothing but a troll for engagement and anything else.

Truth be told, Redick is right on point with this assessment.

It literally makes no sense that rookies like Victor Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson had a higher ranking than, say, Russell Westbrook, when they haven’t played a single minute of actual NBA basketball.

These rankings are often subjective and the gap between one player and the other usually makes no sense at all, mostly because there aren’t any objective criteria.

However, Redick’s bosses may not be thrilled with those comments.

He’s been a part of ESPN’s broadcasts and has made some appearances on First Take, so perhaps they’ll send him a not-so-friendly memo over this harsh criticism, even if he has a valid point.
