After 12 years in the NFL, superstar defensive end J.J. Watt decided it was time to walk away from the game, as he announced he was retiring following his second season with the Arizona Cardinals.
With the Cardinals seemingly rebuilding and heading in another direction, it’s not all that surprising that Watt would call it a career, as his window of opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl had closed.
However, as a future Hall of Famer that could arguably contribute to a title-contending team, the question he will get whenever he does interviews is whether he’ll play again.
Unlike some NFL superstars of the past, Watt appears to be very content with his decision to retire at 34 years old without a Super Bowl title on his resume, as he said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Although Watt is content at this point in time and seems to be looking forward to life after football, the reality of that new life doesn’t really hit until a player starts watching his old team and teammates play on Sunday during the regular season.
The itch to play almost always starts during the season, especially when injuries begin to rip through teams and opportunities arise, with players like Watt starting to get phone calls.
It’ll be interesting to see if Watt is genuinely content with his decision and if he can resist the urge to return to the gridiron one last time, especially if it’s to play alongside his brother T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
