After another devastating early playoff exit at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, it’s a surprise to nobody that head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott might be feeling their hot seats getting just a bit warmer this offseason.

It raised a few eyebrows when McCarthy wasn’t fired with just one year remaining on his contract, but now the focus turns to Prescott, who is also heading into the final year of his deal.

According to owner Jerry Jones, the contract situation for his star quarterback is not a major priority at the moment.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones isn’t afraid of the idea that 2024 could be Prescott’s final year in Dallas.

Jones appeared relaxed during his annual meeting with the reporters at the NFL Combine, saying “I don’t fear that. No, I do not. Because I have my mind on being better than we were last year. And that’s where the focus should be.”

Jerry Jones doesn’t fear the possibility that this could be Dak Prescott’s last year with the Cowboys.

With McCarthy and Prescott’s futures uncertain past this upcoming season, it’s clear the Cowboys are all in for 2024.

Prescott’s situation is unique, as he has the leverage of his massive cap hit.

On the first day of the 2024 league year, Prescott’s cap hit shoots up from $26.832 million in 2023 to $59.455 million for 2024.

If he and the Cowboys can agree to an extension before then, it can significantly reduce that cap hit and give the team more flexibility.

If the team decides to let him hit free agency in March of 2025, the Cowboys will have to stomach $36.46 million in dead money.

Jones has been calmer than you’d expect following a 48-32 wild-card round loss, but perhaps he still has a strong belief in his head coach and QB.
