Everyone in the NFL is seemingly waiting on the New York Jets to come to terms with the Green Bay Packers on the parameters of an Aaron Rodgers trade.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback said he wants to join the Jets for the 2023 season, but since he’s still under contract with Green Bay, he will have to do so via trade.

Joe Douglas, the general manager of the Jets, says that things are moving along, albeit slowly.

Joe Douglas said there have been productive conversations with the Packers but they’re not where they need to be. He said there is no sense of urgency right now.

Rodgers had a dismal 2022 season with the Packers, as the team fell to an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs while his production fell.

His completion percentage fell from 68.9 percent to 64.6 percent and he threw just 26 touchdown passes, compared to 37 in 2021.

Some of it could possibly be attributed to the departure of star wide receiver Davante Adams last offseason, but at the same time, Rodgers turned 39 late last season, and it was his 15th season as a full-time starter.

While Green Bay’s roster was rather anemic last season, New York seems to be building a winner.

They have the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year in wideout Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner, respectively, and also brought in Allen Lazard, one of Rodgers’ favorite receivers over the last few years in Green Bay.

Rodgers could make the Jets into a contender, but the AFC has gotten even stronger, and a playoff berth will not necessarily be a lock for them.

In fact, some may be expecting them to be merely the third-best team in their own division behind the mighty Buffalo Bills and the improving Miami Dolphins.
