The New York Jets know pretty well that there’s not much room for error now.
They have one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and, as such, they need to honor him with nothing but best in their receiving corps.
With that in mind, they’ve decided to cut ties with one of their most disappointing youngsters of the past couple of years.
According to a report by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the team will look to waive former second-round pick WR Denzel Mims if they can’t find him a last-second trade partner.

The team informed the fourth-year pro of their decision and excused him from reporting to training camp, and he’s expected to be waived either later on Wednesday or early on Thursday.
Mims was a survivor of the previous regime, which took him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He made 30 appearances and hauled in 42 receptions for 676 yards with no touchdowns in his time in Gotham.
The No. 59 pick out of Baylor, he impressed with speed during his college days and at the combine, but multiple injuries and some tough competition for snaps eventually doomed his time with the organization.
He’s still young and multiple teams could look to get him as a low-risk/high-reward pickup, as the physical traits and speed are still there, and maybe he just needs a change of scenery and more opportunities to finally break out as the star wideout some hoped he could become.
