Hall-of-Fame third baseman Scott Rolen was a player who had a positive impact on baseball, as well as his teammates and competitors.
He played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, splitting time between the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Cincinnati Reds.
While with the Reds, he got a chance to play with a young Joey Votto, and mentor the slugger on his way to becoming a superstar.
Over the weekend, Rolen was officially enshrined in Cooperstown and achieved baseball immortality.
On Twitter, Votto responded to a video of Rolen’s acceptance speech, thanking his friend for teaching him how to become the best player he could possibly be.

Votto stated that he will always cherish his time playing alongside the Hall-of-Famer and learning from him.
He also gave Rolen the ultimate compliment, stating that he was the best mentor any young player could ask for.
Votto congratulated Rolen and his family on such an amazing feat.
Rolen joined the Reds in 2009 when he was acquired from the Blue Jays, marking the second time that then-General Manager Walt Jocketty had traded for him.
The Hall-of-Famer played alongside several stars in Cincinnati, including Votto, Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Johnny Cueto, and Aroldis Chapman.
But Votto certainly was able to benefit from having somebody like Rolen around during the earlier stages of his career.
Together, Votto and Rolen won two NL Central titles for the Reds in 2010 and 2012.
Rolen was also with the Reds when Votto won an MVP award in 2010.
