The Minnesota Timberwolves need their stars to step up.

Anthony Edwards looks exhausted and way over his head, at least on the offensive end of the floor, and he’s not getting much help from his co-star.

Karl-Anthony Towns had a game to forget on both ends of the floor, up to the point where he was benched for the final nine minutes of a close, must-win game.

When asked about that, the former No. 1 pick was a good sport, stating that he’s always about winning, so if coach Chris Finch thought Naz Reid would give them a better shot, he wasn’t going to complain about that (via Dave McMenamin).

Karl-Anthony Towns on being benched for the final 8:40 of the 4th Q: “I’m with winning, so whatever it takes to win. Naz [Reid] has it going. Coach’s decision, I’m fully supportive of my coaching staff. Wouldn’t question them one bit.”

Props to Towns for being a team-first kind of guy, and it’s a fact that Reid had been on fire from beyond the arc throughout the course of the game.

However, being the second-best player on the team and becoming unplayable down the stretch must hurt your ego.

Edwards did a lot of talking, and he’s failing to back that up on the court, but even if that’s the case, and even if he’s the undisputed leader and best player, he’s just 22 years old.

Towns has often shied away from the big moment, and the Timberwolves simply won’t stand a chance if he’s not hitting shots or being aggressive.

The Timberwolves are in a tough spot and about to hit the road, and it’ll take a huge team effort to help them overcome this big deficit and make this a series.
