The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several surprising moves this offseason, with quarterback decisions being at the forefront.

The Steelers have acquired Justin Fields and Russell Wilson over the past week, leaving Kenny Pickett without a role on this team.

He was subsequently traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he will be Jalen Hurts’ backup.

Pickett was recently asked about his exit from the Steelers in a conversation shared via Ian Rapoport.

“I’m confident in the way I handled it. I handled it the way I should have handled it,” Pickett said.

While Pickett seems optimistic about his new team, this is likely not how he envisioned his NFL career would pan out.

After all, the Steelers selected him with a first-round pick, hoping he would be their first true franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers are a historic organization with a top-notch coaching staff, but he could not gain traction with this team for whatever reason.

It is unclear if the scheme wasn’t a good fit for Pickett or if he wasn’t NFL-ready in his first few seasons.

While he can’t dwell on the past, Pickett now has another opportunity with a new team, even though it isn’t in a starting capacity.

With any luck, Pickett can learn a lot from Hurts and the Eagles coaching staff, hoping to prove he can be a starter in this league someday.

The NFL continues to be a league where teams ask, “What have you done for me lately?”

Pickett didn’t do enough to make it as the Steelers starter, but that’s not to say that his NFL career is dead.
