Stephen Curry added to his legend on Sunday by scoring 50 points to lead his Golden State Warriors to a 120-100 win over the Sacramento Kings in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series.

It was one of the handfuls of times a road team has won a Game 7, and it was an example of one of the all-time greats playing at his zenith when his best was needed.

Former teammate Kevin Durant couldn’t help but give Curry his flowers afterward.

On Sunday, no one else was a consistent offensive threat for Golden State, as Klay Thompson shot just 4-of-19 from the field and forward Andrew Wiggins was 5-of-16, while its bench contributed very little.

It is games such as this where a team must call on a Herculean effort from its best player, and that’s exactly what Curry put forward.

He shot 20-of-38 overall and 7-of-18 from 3-point range, and he seemingly got better in the fourth quarter as his team pulled away.

Some have questioned whether Curry has what it takes to play his best under pressure, but he put those doubts to rest in last year’s NBA Finals with a 43-point performance in the pivotal fourth game en route to series MVP honors.

After all the defending champion Warriors have gone through this season, which has included multiple injuries to Curry, they will go on to the Western Conference semifinals to face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Yes, Golden State’s hopes of a fifth ring in the last nine years are still very much alive.
